Objective

The Falck Foundation offers the Sophus Falck Prize Essay to support interest in the objectives of the Falck Foundation.

The objectives of the Falck Foundation are targeting optimisation in global quality, and improving cost containment in pre-hospital care, the essential chain in the healthcare process by fulfilling all kind of research into:

The objectives of the FALCK FOUNDATION are targeting optimisation in global quality, and improving cost containment in pre-hospital care, the essential chain in the healthcare process by fulfilling all kind of research into:

  • Analysis and improvement of the different pre-hospital settings
  • Optimising cost-containment of pre-hospital care
  • Functions in pre-hospital care

The areas of interest could be (but not exclusive):

  • Economic Science
  • Medical Science
  • Philosophy
  • Political Science
  • Journalism

The Prize

First prize for an essay will be given to the essays originality and its contribution to new knowledge and insights. Furthermore the essays will be graded for their structure and coherence, originality and creativity and the use of thoughtful and concrete proposals/examples.

1. prize: 5,000 euros
2. prize: 3,000 euros
3. prize: 2,000 euros.

Second and third prize can be achieved when the answers do not fully meet these requirements, but demonstrates abilities and an excellent understanding of the chosen problem area and provides an excellent and self-producing subject.

The first author of the Sophus Falck prize winning essay will be invited to present the essay on the 15th November 2011, at the Sophus Falck celebration in Denmark (airfare, hotel accommodations included).

Essay requirements

The essay shall be original and unpublished. It must be written in English. We realize that English will be foreign languages to many participants; therefore language mistakes will not be penalized, as long as the content is understandable.

Entries must be sent as an electronic document (.doc or .pdf) as an email attachment to the Falck Foundation secretariat and received by 15th September 2011.

Entries must be limited to a maximum of 2,500 words and include a title page listing the author’s full name, address and email address. Any change of address shall be promptly reported to the Falck Foundations secretariat. Entries may have multiple co-authors, but all co-authors must be listed on the title page.

Judging

Primary consideration will be given to the essays originality and will be graded for their structure and coherence, originality and creativity and the use of thoughtful and concrete proposals/ examples.  The prize essay must provide the basis for an informed debate of the issues raised in the media and public as well as provide a basis for research in this area.

The judges’ decisions are final and neither the Falck Foundation nor the judging panel will enter into correspondence about them or be able to provide feedback to applicants. Submissions will be accepted as final and complete on receipt.

If no submission is judged to be appropriate the Falck Foundations reserves the right to make no award.

Further reading

The submitted responses remain Falck Foundation property, and Falck Foundation may publish the essays on the Falck Foundation web-site. The Falck Foundation is not entitled to use the responses in another way, since the author has copyright to the work.
